I am happy to say that the iris I planted last year from Brecks bloomed out
in its full glory this year. Tip from my friend Antoinette: part of the iris rhizome needs to be exposed to the sunlight in
order to bloom. So when she told me that I went back out into the iris bed and dug away a little dirt off the top of
the rhizomes and lo and behold -- within days there were flower stalks shooting up. They haven't opened up yet but
they're all different colors, thanks to my friend Melissa from church. When she heard that I wanted irises, she said,
"Come on over, bring your shovel and we'll dig some up. I've got lots!"
